We are living in an uncertain time with a great many unknowns regarding public and community health as well as economic outcomes. The long-term impact of the necessary decision to practice social distancing on the sustainability of many nonprofit organizations is yet to be determined, but leaders across the country are working to build on past trends and success to navigate through the fallout of how this crisis is unfolding. Join us for a conversation with noted business executive and philanthropist, David M. Weekley as he shares some of his thoughts regarding nonprofit leadership and how board members and management teams can work together to ensure their organizations survive this crisis.

David Weekley

David M. Weekley, Chairman of David Weekley Homes, began his home building company at the age of 23. The Company has been named to FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For®” list 14 times. David Weekley Homes has earned multiple honors in the areas of product design, marketing and management, and closed over $2.1 billion worth of new homes in 22 different cities in 2019.

As a community leader and Distinguished Eagle Scout, David is Past Chairman of the Sam Houston Area Council of Boy Scouts, Past President of the Greater Houston Builder’s Association, former Chairman of Metro Houston Young Life, former Chair of the Greater Houston Community Foundation former Chair of the Houston Young Presidents’ Organization, and Board Chair of Alpha Houston. In addition, he is a member of numerous other non-profit Boards.

As Chairman of the David Weekley Family Foundation, David practices a venture philanthropy model of investing treasure, time and talent to grow non-profits and social enterprises serving the poor and disadvantaged. The Foundation’s international portfolio concentrates on improving education, health and livelihoods with a focus on helping young, innovative organizations scale up their proven models to reduce global poverty. Whether it is given locally or internationally, David is committed to improving the lives of less fortunate.

David holds degrees in Economics and Geology from San Antonio’s Trinity University. He and his wife, Bonnie, have been married for 44 years and have three children and seven grandchildren.
