About this session
Community and school culture are at the heart of the adaptability and fluidity needed, as teachers, parents and students weather the unique challenges in this COVID-19 time. Collaboration among these team members may garner some rich rewards. Growing skills in teaching and learning design can lead to student creation and more rigorous learning. The goal is a partnership between student and teacher in designing lessons that foster student ownership of their learning. A design with this foundation will undergird the fluid movement between online and face-to-face learning.

Barrett Doke has taught middle and high school social studies in Houston ISD and currently teaches 8th grade history at T.H. Rogers School. He also supports pre-service teachers at Rice as an education technology specialist.
Jessica Bautista has taught elementary and middle school science to diverse learners for the past five years in Houston ISD. She recently earned her Masters in Teaching from Rice as well as certification for Principal as Instructional Leader. She has supported pre-service teachers at Rice, served as an Instructional Coach in a remote learning setting, and now serves Patrick Henry Middle School as a Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Coach. As an instructional technology coach, she works to provide instructional support so educators can effectively leverage technology to increase student engagement and achievement, whether virtually or in person.
Jasmine Hopson is a rising 4th year teacher at Chancellor Elementary School in Alief ISD. She has experience across the Elementary grades in primarily ELAR subjects. She is a wife and mother of a two year old son. Her interests include reading, traveling, and community service.
Aster O'Leary graduated from Rice in May 2020 with her BA in History and her Texas Teaching Certificate. She currently teaches 7th Grade American History at Achievement First Aspire Middle School in Brooklyn, New York.
